와일드냅 Wildnap 을 시작한 이유
처음엔 이끼였다.
작고 조용한 이끼가 지구를 이루는 기본이라는 사실이 너무 신기했다.
그다음엔 등각류였다. 벌레라고만 여겼던 존재가 사실 지구의 분해 시스템을 떠받치고 있다는 걸 알게 됐을 때, 자연이 다르게 보이기 시작했다.
그 작은 것들에 매료된 뒤, 자연스럽게 집 안에 자연을 들이고 싶어졌다. 테라리움을 만들고, 팔루다리움을 만들었다. 그런데 그 공간 안에 생명체가 있으면 어떨까, 라는 생각이 들었다.
그렇게 파충류를 알게 됐다. 양서류도 알게 됐다.
식물, 동물, 미생물, 이끼, 등각류가 한 공간 안에서 각자의 역할로 살아가는 것을 보고 있으면 마음이 조용해진다. 생명이 얼마나 정교하게 연결되어 있는지, 그 작은 유리 한 칸 안에서도 느껴진다.
와일드냅 Wildnap은 그 감각에서 시작됐다.
왜 Wildnap인가
Wild — 파충류, 이끼, 등각류가 가진 거칠고 날것의 자연.
Nap — 문명에 지친 도시인이 원하는 달콤한 휴식과 힐링.
이 두 단어의 결합이 Wildnap이다. ‘에코’, ‘네이처’ 같은 이름들 사이에서, Wildnap은 날것의 자연이 주는 진짜 쉼을 이야기한다.
지금 하는 일
크레스티드 게코를 중심으로 브리딩을 하고 있다. 비어디드래곤, 베일드카멜레온, 아프리칸 팻테일 게코, 납테일 게코도 함께 다룬다. 동시에 테라리움과 팔루다리움, 이끼와 식물에 대한 관심도 계속 이어가고 있다.
브리딩에서는 빠른 결과보다 긴 관찰을 우선으로 한다. 한 페어링을 여러 세대에 걸쳐 추적하고, 개체의 발색 변화와 유전 패턴을 기록한다. 지금 주력 프로젝트는 초초(ChoCho), 릴리화이트(Lilly White), 세이블(Sable), 아잔틱(Axanthic) 모프를 중심으로 한 장기 브리딩이다.
브리딩 철학
- 빠름보다 정확함 — 한 시즌의 결과에 흔들리지 않는다. 진짜 데이터는 여러 세대에서 나온다.
- 관찰이 먼저 — 모프를 섣불리 단정하지 않는다. 발색은 시간이 지나야 보인다.
- 기록이 자산 — 해칭일, 부모 정보, 발색 변화를 모두 남긴다. 이 기록이 다음 브리딩을 만든다.
- 공유가 성장 — 알게 된 것을 혼자 갖고 있지 않는다. 커뮤니티와 나누는 것이 Wildnap의 방향이다.
About Wildnap
It started with moss.
The fact that something so small could be fundamental to the Earth felt remarkable. Then came isopods — what I’d always dismissed as bugs turned out to be one of the planet’s essential decomposers. That’s when nature started looking different to me.
From there, I wanted to bring nature indoors. I built terrariums. Then paludaria. Then I thought: what if there were living creatures inside? That’s how I found reptiles. And amphibians.
Watching plants, animals, microorganisms, moss, and isopods coexist in a single glass enclosure — each playing its role — is quietly remarkable. The same complexity that holds ecosystems together can fit inside a small vivarium. WILDNAP grew out of that feeling.
Why Wildnap?
Wild — the raw, untamed nature of reptiles, moss, and isopods.
Nap — the sweet rest and healing that city-weary people crave.
That’s Wildnap. Among the sea of ‘eco’ and ‘nature’ brands, Wildnap speaks to the genuine rest that only raw nature can give.
What We Do
WILDNAP breeds crested geckos as its primary focus, alongside bearded dragons, veiled chameleons, African fat-tailed geckos, and knob-tailed geckos. We also continue working with terrarium and paludarium builds, live moss, and plants.
In breeding, long observation takes priority over fast results. We track pairings across multiple generations, document color development, and record genetic patterns. Current projects center on ChoCho, Lilly White, Sable, and Axanthic morphs in crested geckos.
Philosophy
- Accuracy over speed — One season’s results don’t define a project. Real data takes generations.
- Observe before concluding — Color takes time to express. We don’t rush identification.
- Records are assets — Every hatch, every parent, every color shift gets documented.
- Share what you learn — Knowledge shared is knowledge that grows.
